I used to get a lot of acid reflux and it was made worse by taking antacids and also by very cold water and drinking before lying down. There is a simple way to fix it if you get it and it sounds crazy, but you drink a spoonful of cider vinegar. It really works. To avoid further acid reflux, eating carbohydrates and proteins seperately works for me. It also normalises your weight, you gain if too thin, lose if too fat.
Try the book "Food combining for health" If you need to see how it works in mor detail. Good luck getting off medication.
My daughter has severe acid reflux and she takes Reglan, prevacid and erithromycin but they are all prescribe by the doctor not over the counter.
prilosec et all is the worst thing you can do
i happened upon a flyer in the heath food store about using orange peel extract.
i tried it and it worked perfectly. i have had no AR since.
it cost maybe $20. i did have to order it online because i couldn’t find it locally. i think it was called Quench the Fire.
you can read the flyer here:

Getting temporary relief from medicines is fine, but it does not help get rid of the problem. Being overweight (as one person has already suggested) and cigarette smoking can contribute to having the problem in the first place. A high protein diet of low fat foods such as skinless turkey or chicken breast, skimmed milk, fish and beans can actually strengthen the valve that guards your esophagus. Good luck.
