What is the best flea and tick medicine for cats and kittens?

I have 3 adult cats and 1 kitten (about 3 months old) and they all have fleas and ticks. What is the best flea and tick medicine that actually works and is affordable? I prefer to use a one-spot treatment. Links and referrals are welcome! Thanks!

Frontline spot-on. It treats fleas and ticks and can be used on cats from 8 weeks of age. Get the Combo/Plus version if possible (from a vet) as this is the most complete treatment available as it also kills flea eggs and larvae and so helps break the flea lifecycle.
Do not use ANY flea or worm treatments from pet stores (except Frontline which has recently become licensed to be sold in stores) – there are some very dangerous flea products available in pet stores and all of them, I can guarantee you, are useless. Pop in to a vets – if the cats have worms, they have tapeworm too. Kittens should be wormed at least monthly until 6 months of age.

Advantage. Only licensed practicing veterinarians can prescribe it to you. It is a little pricey (about 40$ for a 4 month supply.) Please do not use any flea medicines you find at a supermarket. The ingredients used in them are dangerous. Your best bet is to take your cats to their vet. Ticks can carry diseases like Lyme disease. Your home and your blankets, sofa, and pillows are most likely infested.

do not use flea collars they do not work i think you get get some medicine at a cat hospital or doctor or maybe even a animal shelter
I did it for about 10 years when I had indoor outdoor kitties, now only indoor, so no need any more but it was a life savor!!
How I got rid of fleas and bugs from my home
You will need to get a simple bug/fly zapper; a friend or neighbor may already have one you can use. You can buy one that will cover a 3000 sq ft area of your house at an OSH or Home Dept type stores for as little as 20.00-30.00 dollars. Place the zapper on the FLOOR in a corner behind an end table so kids and pets won’t bother it. Remember, it is a piece of electrical equipment. You have to use caution in where you put it. Fleas will go to the light especially at night. When they hop in to the bug zapper you can actually hear little, zits, zits when the fleas are getting fried! Keep the carpet vacuumed daily until your flea problem is under control, this will help tremendously in getting the fleas eggs out of your home and carpet faster and break the flea egg cycle!! I am not responsible for misuse of the this item, I am telling you what I did with my zapper and it worked so well I wanted to share my success. Use full caution in placing your bug zapper to the safest place. It will work for months, even years; it will continue to kill bugs in your home as long as the light is on. The bulb can be replaced once it burns out. The light bulb can be purchased the same stores mentioned above. I have treated my home and cats with natural products for fleas and they work.
Whatever you use should not be toxic.
I haven’t had any fleas in years. First you must treat your pet and the house.
Then you must give your pet a mixture of brewer’s yeast and garlic powder that is mixed in with the food. Fleas won’t like the taste of your pet when its having this mixture and they won’t infest your home. I don’t use Frontline, Advantage or the like.
