What is the average annual cost of dog vaccinations?
Our pet insurance only covers per year for vaccinations, and we quickly exceeded that amount after our first two regular vet visits, with our new puppy. I’m wondering if the first year is just more expensive than usual, or if our insurance is bad.
Thanks for any info.

The First year is much more expensive from what I hear. We just got our girl a few months ago, and we’ve already spend a tad over $400.00 (spay cost included) for her vet bill. But since she’s a pup, they have to go through several shots, spread out over a period of time the First year. After the first year, they they only need to go once a year. So it shouldn’t be nearly as bad. ( Of course unless you have any problems)
So I guess as far as your insurance goes, it depends on how much your paying for it. Ask your vet to give you a guesstimate on how much next years shots will be, and compare that to what you pay.
Good Luck
Annual boosters are about £30 im not sure what that is in dollars though.
We just had to give our dog Benson his boosters in February.
Here in Iowa, the $35 would cover the required shots.
The Dist. Hep.-Lept. and Rabies was $17.50
and the Parvo was $17.50 also.
I don’t know what the kennel cough costs because beings that we never go anywhere and I dogs never get boarded anywhere I never need that partcular vaccine given to them.
The first year is the worse, after that it gets easier.
The first year is more expensive, as they need a series of vaccines. After that, yearly boosters for most vaccines, and usually every 3-5 years for Rabies (depends on where you live and what vaccine was used). Depending on where you live and your vet’s pricing, $35 may or may not cover the standard yearly vaccines on an adult. On years you need Rabies boosters, that will not cover the cost.
The first year is always more expensive b/c they receive a series of vaccines to initially boost immunity.
They will then only receive vaccines annually. Disptemper combo is given annually, the 2nd Rabies vaccine is then good for 3 years, Bordetella should be given every 6 months, but some Vet’s do it once per year.
Don’t forget about monthly heart worm preventive and annual heart worm testing as well and flea and tick prevention.
But yes, once you get past the first year with the series vaccinations, it’s a bit cheaper.
If I were you, I’d skip the insurance and put that money into a saving account of your own to cover annual stuff as well as to have money if he ever becomes ill.
