I am afraid they are all correct. There may be the possibility of doing the amputation under an epidural injection (like for having a baby). This is a lot less stress on the heart than a general anesthetic but isn't free of risks either. It is also very stressful for the patient as they can hear the saws etc.

If the foot is gangrenous and not removed, he will get Sepsis - multiple organ failure, he will die.

Yes it happened to my father. The "dead foot" gets severe infection, called gangrene,
and it spreads up the leg and into the bloodstream. In a very short time it gets way
out of hand because the entire blood supply gets infected, then the organs start
shutting down. First is usually the kidneys, which is merciful because when the
kidneys stop filtering the blood it causes anesthesia of the rest of the body. The
person's eyes become extremely bright for a day or so, and they can seem as if
they are getting better. But this is only their body's last effort and they quickly go
down. They can't hold any food. Their lungs fill up with black, "dead blood" and
they choke and gasp for air until finally their heart stops.
I have a friend though, who is 95 and they said the same about her, that her heart
wasn't strong enough to amputate her bad leg, but she would have died anyway
so she went for it. They took it off above the knee but she's lived 6 years after so
far. One thing sure, its certain death if they DON'T amputate it! You just have to
make certain the foot IS actually too bad to save. If the skin is totally blue-black,
cracks open and seeps dark blood, GET IT OFF!

He needs to put sugar on the open wound and wrap it. The sugar will heal his foot and will give it back to him.
