My dog has severely dry skin and has started breaking out in little red bumbs all over his body, especially under his armpits. I would prefer not to take him to the Vet again, as they diagnosed seasonal dermatitis and gave me a prescription that was supposed to help but only seemed to make it worse. Are there any home remedies that would help? I’ve heard that a teaspoon of honey per every 30lbs of body weight helps build his immunity, but any other suggestions?

My minituare poodle had a low platelet count develop shortly after getting a shot. Obviously I have had her to the Vet and used medication to take care of the immediate problem.

I’m just a little nervous about her next round of immunization shots next year.

Of course, I can’t be 100% certain the shots caused her problem, but I am suspicious. I’m just curious if anyone else here has had an issue.

I am taking her for her yearly vaccinations tomorrow at a new vet and they asked me what vaccines I want for her. I sometimes take her to dog parks and she plays with other dogs in the neighborhood. I am not sure what vaccinations she received last year besides rabies. What would be recommended for her aside from the rabies shot that she will definitely get??

Just got a new dog, he’s been coughing. Took to vet was told upper respiratory infection and been on cough meds and antibiotics for a few days. He also had a fever at the time. His head feels hot. So without having a thermamtor is there a way to know if he still has a fever?

My cat is very sick and the vet put him on 2 different liquid medicines (orally). He is lethargic and I know he will refuse to let me put this medicine in his mouth. How can I make him comfortable while doing this and get it down him at the same time? Thanks! Troll answers WILL be reported!
I have several syringes.

He is currently not eating or drinking.

I bought a puppy about three months ago from a breeder. A month after getting the dog he comes down with parvovirus. I spend 0 on getting him healthy. A month later he gets a bad case of mange. The vet says his immune system may be weak. How can I build his immune system to keep him healthy?

We got a little bottle of a thick yellow liquid medicine to put in the face folds of our pug when the skin got red and irritated, possibly infected. The label has worn off and even after looking through all our records I can’t find the name of the medicine. We go to a new vet now and have described this medicine to him but without an actual name they can’t pinpoint what the old vet gave us. If any pug owners have used this medicine for the face folds, we’d greatly appreciate help with the name.

Where does your vet give vaccinations at?

I read on another forum that vets have started giving vaccinations in the legs (1 vaccination per leg) instead of the neck so if the dog develops cancer from the vaccinations they know which one it was.

I’d never heard this until today. My vet, and every vet I’ve used before, gives vaccinations in the dog’s neck. Where does your vet give vaccinations?
It was just from a forum user that I heard it from.

About 2 weeks ago I asked about constipation in cats & what to do.Someone said to give 1ml of mineral oil 3 to 4 days. After spending a bit of money at the vet I decided to try the suggestion and adjusted the amount to the weight of my cat the way they would if he were to get medication. I would like that person to know it worked "Thank You".He was pretty sick, not eating or drinking and is doing much better. The vet was trying to fix it from the wrong end!

How soon to see Roundworm treatment results?

The vet gave my kitty a roundworm treatment today. She said that it varies between cats as to how soon we would see change in her bowel movements (she has had soft stools). How soon have you seen results with your cats’ treatment?

The vet says that one of our cats has an overactive thyroid, and our options are surgery, medication, or treatment with radioactive iodine (I-131). The vet says that surgery and pills are both problematic and the best choice is the iodine therapy. This treatment requires a week of isolation at the treatment facility (which of itself can be hard on a pet), followed by a period of time at home that they can’t go outside and you have to minimize your contact (because they’re, um, radioactive). Is this treatment worth it? How effective is it? Any side effects in your personal experience?

I received a letter from my vet earlier today saying my dog needs her rabies and other vaccinations. My dogs always had her vaccinations annually around the same time, and recently when she was spayed in March she had a full set with her rabies.

I’m not sure if that’s a mistaken letter, or if for some reason she’d be due for something I’m not aware of.

Our 7 year old English Cocker Spaniel was just diagnosed with prostate cancer a few days ago. We’re looking for people who have had success with treatment plans (chemo, holistic, etc.). Our vet has him on piroxicam to help shrink his prostate down, but we would love to hear any success stories anyone has.

I have a 6 month old small breed puppy, I’m wondering what age is appropriate to start heartworm medicine, and what brands are preferred.
Thanks! I wish my vet had told me about that. I’m going to call right now and make an appointment.

Home remedies?

Do you use home remedies with your dog(s)?

I see some people totally against them and some people using them. Do you try home remedies? Do you go straight to the vet for every little thing? Do you use a combination of what your vet tells you and home remedies? Does your vet ever recommend home remedies?
