My brother had been diagnosed with thyroid cancer and his cancer managed to metastasize into his liver. My question is, how is it that cancer in one part of the body can metastasize into one part of the body but not the surrounding areas? Or is it just a matter of time?
I had a biopsy on a thyroid nodule yesterday. How long does it take to get back the results?
Does an ultrasound of your thyroid give off radiation? What about having an ‘uptake’ scan of your thyroid? Would that be exposure to radiation? How much is too much exposure to radiation and over how long of time?

I have noticed in the past year that I’ve rapidly and severely gained a LOT of weight. I had my thyroid check in-depth and everything was normal. My doctor discovered that my gallbladder was diseased and I had it removed this morning. The surgeon said my gallbladder had been diseased for a long time. I am wondering if this diseased gallbladder has been the cause of my strange weight gian. Is this a possibility? If so, does that mean I can lose the weight now that the problem is gone?
my diet and activity have not changed but i’ve suddenly developed painful joints. the onset was subtle and gradual. after three days i was so swollen i couldn’t walk or make a fist. after a week the swelling is diminished (not gone) and the pain remains. i’ve had bloodwork drawn but results are slower than my patience. i’d like to be prepared for whatever comes.
so far i’ve heard of (and i’m being tested for) thyroid, lupus, osteoarthritis and diabetes.
please provide reading material is possible.
i’m in my early thirties. i hate to put it this way but i really think i’m too young for arthritis or simple aging. i constantly keep my hands busy with sewing and typing. i promise the problem can not be lack of activity.

My friend was just dx’d w/ thyroid cancer. She had surgery to remove the 1.2 centimeter tumor in the middle of her thyroid. 3 of the 6 lymph nodes that were taken were found to also have cancer. Why would her tumor be both papillary AND follicular? What does that mean for her?
The vet says that one of our cats has an overactive thyroid, and our options are surgery, medication, or treatment with radioactive iodine (I-131). The vet says that surgery and pills are both problematic and the best choice is the iodine therapy. This treatment requires a week of isolation at the treatment facility (which of itself can be hard on a pet), followed by a period of time at home that they can’t go outside and you have to minimize your contact (because they’re, um, radioactive). Is this treatment worth it? How effective is it? Any side effects in your personal experience?
Our cat was just diagnosed with hyperactive thyroid & my parents want to do the methimazole treatment. I heard that there are lots of side effects including liver & kidney damage. I prefer the radioactive iodine cause I heard it’s a cure for the disease.
Anyway, if you have a cat with hyperthyroidism, what course of action did you take? Which do you recommend if safest method?
I have thyroid disease and I am taking synthroid for it. If I start to get hot I will break out into a sweat. It is like a hot flash. I don’t have night sweats so I know I am over the menopause thing. Does anyone out there do the same thing that has thyroid disease? This is very bothersome to me… a real drag!
