We just had to put one of my mother’s dogs down today due to congestive heart failure. I was wondering, and can’t seem to find the answer elsewhere, what the drug/chemical they used to euthanize her. They used a sedative first, but the actual drug that stopped her function was purple in color. Anyone know what it is? I’d like to think it was painless, but I’d like to do my own research!

Hi, my little yorkie is 5 months old and just had his third puppy vaccine 11 days ago. When is he "safe" to play with others dogs / visit a professional groomer?

What genetic health testing do you do? What is it called and what is it testing for? What breed do you have and why do you test for it?

Thanks!
Yes I know of them, just interested to know what breeders test for and what breeds and why.
Do you do the tests on just the dogs you breed or the pups before also before they go to new homes? (not the OFA ones because I know they have to be 2 years old at least)

We bathed all five pets (2 dogs, 3 cats) in Zodiac flea shampoo (made for dogs & cats). Four pets are fine, but one cat (3 years old, Calico, female, healthy, all cats are indoor only) has had a bad reaction to the shampoo. She is constantly grooming and pulling off her fur, and although she now has bald patches she eats fine, is affectionate, and does not have open wounds. We have rinsed her again with clean water, but is there anything else we can do to soothe her? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Home Remedy?

I’ve tried just about everything to get rid of my dogs fleas but they just won’t die, anyone know of a simple home remedy that might work before i give up and get advantage?
I heard that earl grey tea works..like you sprinkle it on your carpet and spray your dogs…..is that true?

I’m getting ready to move to Okinawa, Japan with my fiance. What vaccinations will I need to get for my dogs? Is there a site I can go to?

mice control and pet safety?

I live in the middle of nowhere and have this summer after obtaining a sun conure(bird) have developed a problem with mice…They are really grossing me out and i want them to DIE. But I have dogs so I am afraid to put out poisin.. any suggestions? Traps suck and are not working very well! If my dogs eat a mouse after the mouse consumes the poisin will it hurts the dogs?

Swallowed a large amount of hydrogen peroxide?

Induced vomiting.
Ate a hotdog and drank a couple glasses of milk.

Feeling really shitty now.
No money to go to ER.

Poisin control said that they use it to make dogs vomit and that I should be okay but I might throw up alot.

I don’t trust them becuase of what else it says on the site.

i have a new pool and dogs in my backyard and also mosquitos. does anybody has a good experience with organic insect repellents or yard treatments?

What are the possible causes of a rash on a dog?

Last night my dog ended up with a pretty nasty looking rash on his inner thighs and on his "armpits." It looks as though he has a few scratches too. I’m staying at my family’s house, watching their dogs. I thought it could be poison ivy, but all of the dogs run around in the same area, and the other two don’t have any symptoms. I haven’t fed him anything different. The leg that looks the worst (pretty raw) also has a foul smell coming from the rash area. What could have caused this rash? Is there anything I can do for him in the mean time before I take him in to the doc?

Please don’t tell me to take him to a vet…I know to do that. I would just like some ideas as to what this rash could be, since I can’t find any info online.

Do they give vaccinations there? We are going to give my dogs 3 puppies their vaccinations, and since they close today at 6 p.m. so I can’t call I just wanted to see if anyone knew the cost since their website doesn’t say and we are planning on calling tomorrow but I just wanted an idea of the cost.
I also need to know what kinds of shots puppies should get at 6-8 weeks.

I may be moving to the Philippines in the next couple years, and I will be bringing my lab mix with me when I move. I will be there for about 4 years, and I realize there are many diseases which dogs may potentially be exposed to there. Are there vaccinations which prevent dogs from obtaining diseases in particular countries?
And I realize it is a risk to bring my dog to a third world country, I’m aware of that. But there is no way that I could leave her for that length of time, even if I have to take extreme precautions with her.

I just got an email about using magnets instead of detergents and bleach to clean your clothes in the washing machine. Has anyone actually tried this? We have kids and dogs, so our stuff gets really dirty. I bleach everything I can. Would using magnets destroy all the bacteria? Does it work well in all temperatures of water?

My dog is recovering from what I belief to be a yeast infection(Vet wouldn’t say.. She simply said "Secondary infection from flea allergies".) It is almost gone, but where it is/was, it was always super oily, not dry like most skin infections.. So I’m assuming supplementing an oily dog with oil would be bad, right? Just checking, because I’ve read about all the other benefits of giving dogs omega fatty acids.

I am taking her for her yearly vaccinations tomorrow at a new vet and they asked me what vaccines I want for her. I sometimes take her to dog parks and she plays with other dogs in the neighborhood. I am not sure what vaccinations she received last year besides rabies. What would be recommended for her aside from the rabies shot that she will definitely get??
