Should I start taking prescribed medicine for my migraines?
I’ve been getting migraines for the past 2 or 3 years due to stress. I usually get them first thing in the morning, maybe one day a month. On these days I have a hard time getting up and going to work. It feels like a ring around my head that someone is pressing down on. Sometimes it goes up to the top of my head too. Daylight will bother me. Every once in a while I’ll throw up. Although, compared to other people’s stories, my migranes seem mild. My internal medicine doctor recommended Excedrine for migraines which works well. But sometimes it feels like my migraine doesn’t fully go away and lingers there all day long. Should I be taking something stronger? Should I just ask my internal medicine doctor for a prescription? What would you recommend to take?

try not to get hung up on pain medication. Herbal supplements may be a better alternative. They work to improve overall health and eliminate the source of the headache. MiGone Plus contains properties that relieve tension and help stop the headache before they begin. This site has lots of very good info

I have had migraines for over 14 years. Recently, I changed my diet and it worked! Try changing your diet. Many foods trigger migraine such as milk, cheese, ice cream (dairy products), chocolates, citrus fruits, foods with MSG (monosodium glutamate) such as canned/noodle soups and foods with nitrates such as cold cuts, bacon, saussages, corned beef etc. Other triggers of migraine are menstral cycle, alcohol, birth control pills and caffiene.
Please note that too much medication and pain killers can cause migraine to occur or re occur.
You need to find out what specific foods give you migraine. Nitrates are no good for you because they cause cancers as well so avoid all foods with nitrates. Sometimes all you gotta do is drink lots of water (8x9oz glasses) and take it easy. See these links please. All the best!

I fine Advil works for me. Also, a long warm shower or if you can handle it, go for a swim. My Dr told me years ago that swimming helps relieve migraines and I find that it helps.
I suffer from migrainesas well. I do also take Excedrin when they are not too bad, but I do have a perscription that I take when the migraines are unbearable. If you think that you need a perscription because nothing else works, I would suggest talking to a doctor.
You should definitely get something else to use as a backup in case the Excedrin doesn’t completely get rid of the migraine. There’s no reason to keep suffering!
I started taking prescription Relpax a couple of years ago, and it works better than anything else I’ve ever tried. Most of the time, the pain will go away within a half-hour after taking it.
Hope you find something that works for you!
That is strictly up to you and your doctor. There are some good migraine medications out there that are prescription. There are also many types of headaches. The prescribed medications will usually stop the migraine instantly but they are expensive. Talk to your doctor again and ask for a sample to see how well you do.
