I still have symptoms but I don’t know how long it should last. I’m 55 and have been in menopause for approximately four to five years.

You are considered post-menopausal if your periods have stopped for a full year. The whole menopause process can take anywhere from five to fifteen years in it’s entirety. How long it will take you to get through the process depends alot on family heredity, your weight and stress level. Go see your gyn and get a blood panel done to pinpoint your hormone levels. This will let you know about where you are in the process.
There is actually no "official" termination of the menopause process. Every woman experiences this process differently. Some women have severe symptoms some have very light ones. Some experience these symptoms till their 80’s and more and some do not feel any symptoms after just a couple of years. If you have no more hot flashes you can safely deduct that its over, but some symptoms will never disappear like dryness of the vagina, dryness of skin,. eyes. The process of aging is continuing as long as you live and if you are ready mentally to accept this process of birth and death, things will be much easier for you.
