It affects your vision and your ability to feel pain. It also affects circulation, which has resulted in amputations.

First, yes you can die from diabetes. If you are type I your body does not produce insulin so you must get an insulin shot, but if you are type II your body produces insulin, but it is not enough to brake down the excess sugars in your body and it can be controlled from diet and exercise, and sometimes oral meds are used. If you constantly allow your sugar levels to fluctuate and not have a constant level you may end up needing insulin shots. The rest of the responses from others contain great info also.
Oh, also for the men that are reading this, YES you can become impotent.

many different ways.
I had a friend die,he just slowly got skinnier and skinnier, his was rare though and the Drs. could nt help him.
you can die from uncontrolled diabetes or extremely low blood sugar. my fiance died at the age of 25 from years of uncontrolled diabetes; his kidneys were failing, he had a heart attack, a few strokes, painful neuropathy, and his retinas detached from his eyes. diabetes is a terrible disease if it’s not controlled. some people develop complications while others do not. others have had such tight control, that it is possible to die in your sleep from low blood sugar. be careful. diabetes is a manageable disease. so control it.
Yes, you can die from being a Diabetic.
However, it is usually the complications of Diabetes that kill. A recent study on deaths of people with Diabetes found that 80% of their deaths related to cardiac complications. But then again, the general population also has a very high chance of dying from cardiac disorders as well.
Some unique deaths for Diabetics can be a Diabetic coma, end stage renal function (with complications from dialysis), lactic acidosis (rare but still possible in the population of Diabetics as a whole), congestive heart failure, septicemia, among other conditions that relate to getting complications from the disease.
yes, you can die from diabetes. my mom had it and from it came alot of spin-off diseases which nearly claimed her life several of times which was part of the reason my mom and dad took their lives in march.. back in 98 my little brother died from it.he went blind in 1 eye, had to have a vein removed from his leg, and of course the spin-off diseases…he went into the hospital and was diagnosed with allergys, he went back 2 days later and was admitted with pnemonia in which he died the following morning with a heart-attack… he was 26……i have diabetes as well. diabetes attacks alot of your major organs and tries to shut them down….. organs like the liver, kidneys heart… it also attacks your eyes, skin, and causes low circulation into your legs and feet which causes your amputations….. it is a horrible disease.. you can be born with it or get it at a later age…in some cases diabetes is reversable…eating right, checking you sugar loseing weight, exercising, and taking your medicine are some ways to reverse it… if you have diabetes then please go to a diabetic class to learn more about it….my guess is that you are probabally young and just recently discovered that you do have diabetes?????? am i right???? any how take care of yourself and try to reverse it… there are also support classes that help as well…. well, gotta go for now god bless… melton wilson
Lots of info here.
