I have a friend who is diabetic. He has one of the worst looking toes I have ever seen. It is yellow, REALLY thick, and flaking off. I mentioned it to a nurse, and she said it was that way just because he has diabetes! Will diabetes do that to your nails, without an underlying infection?

I hear the medications by prescription are expensive and are not covered by most insurances because they are considered as cosmetic. Is there anything to get rid of it? Home remedies or over the counter that work?

What did you first notice about your toenails that made you realize they had fungus?
How long did it take to progress?
How has it affected your life?
Thank you.

I have athlete’s foot and it has spread to 3 of my toenails. It is white and flaky at the base and now throughout the entire toenail. I’m using Lotrimin Ultra for the athlete’s foot, but what should I do for the toenails? Summer is coming up and I want to be able to wear flip-flops!!!
Also, does Lamisil really cause liver problems? I don’t want to risk anything like that.
There are other options, I’m not that stupid. I don’t want my toenails removed.

I don’t have the money to see a doctor. My one big toenail fell off. I’ve noticed the nail of the big toe on the other foot is also discoloured. Will my nails grow back normally?

Could it go from initial infection to entire toenail becoming thickened and discolored in a matter of weeks–say within 1 month?
Hi Amy, thanks. Could you tell me what your answer "about 1 month" is based on?

My toenail is flaky, has a textured, wavy feel to it and seems to be growing away from skin.

I have a toenail that is infected and I can’t afford a prescription. Is there a home remedy for getting rid of it?

Not sure if it is exactlly a fungus, just discolored and grows a little different.

I’m thinking about not taking the medication no matter what anyone says. I haven’t paid for it yet so no big deal. I’ve been looking all over the internet and found a few options. I just wondered if any of you guys knew what the best way is to get rid of nail fungus without taking medication.

Every message board I have been to always has some chick or guy that has that starts to talk about their toe fungus in chunk blowing detail. There are cure sites if you need help, so it isn’t necessary to tell me that your rancid toenails are growing mushrooms on them. Please spare us and thanks.
