The Optium Eceed glucose meter is now the Freestye Optium Exceed meter but Freestyle has several different types of test strips. The Optium Exceed meter uses the Optium Electrodes, while FreeStyle also makes the Precision Plus, TrueSense, Sof-Tact, FreeStyle Lite, Optimum Omega and FreeStyle Papillion Mini electrodes. You can use the Optium Electrodes in your Optium Exceed meter but not any of the other Freestyle test strips.
If your insurance doesn’t cover test strips then your best bet is the Walmart Relion meter as the strips are a lot less expensive.
You have to use the test strips that go with the monitor you are using. With a prescription you can get tests strips on your insurance.
No you cannot. Freestyle test strips can be used for Freestyle mini and Freestyle lite. These are the current ones http://www.walmart.com/ip/FREESTYLE-TEST-STRIP-50ct/5379212
No. Each meter maker produces their own test strips so their meters only work with their strips–it’s how they make money since the meters themselves don’t have to be replaced all that often and are generally not too expensive and the lancets (also made to fit a specific meter) don’t have to be replaced all the time. The test strips can only be used once so that’s where every meter maker makes its money.
The Optium Xceed meter is now called the FreeStyle Optium. You do NOT need to change the meter.
The test strips for your meter are now called FreeStyle Optium Test Strips (formerly called Optium Plus Test Strips).
You can confirm this by visiting the following page on the Abbott Laboratories website. (Sorry, I appreciate that it’s the UK website but the United States website seems to be temporarily unavailable.)
