Insomnia (as well as over-sleeping) is definitely linked to depression. Memory loss has also been reported as a symptom for a lot of people who suffer from depression. It could also be related to your insomnia. Lack of sleep has many negative effects on the body and brain, including cognitive dysfunction.
I would talk to your therapist about a referral to a psychiatrist who can prescribe you something. You could even talk to your primary care physician about this. If your depression is having such negative effects on your physical health, you should really start an anti-depressant. You may also need a prescription sleep aid until your depression is under control and you can sleep better on your own.

You can suffer insomnia when you are depressed but most people sleep a lot because of the excess amount of serotonin in their brain.
Your memory is probably being affected because you are most likely withdrawn from your surroundings and you’re probably not paying attention to much because of a lack of interest in things.
It’ll get better. Mention it to your therapist.
Depression can defiantly cause Insomnia, as for why, its different for everybody, it can be thoughts races through your head, or something stressing you out, or a way to express feelings you don’t know how to.
As for memory loss, no I don’t really think I’ve heard of depression causing that.
