Sure. I studied psychology, and here’s what most doctors don’t tell you.
Therapy is just as effective as medication. And medication, or therapy, are just as effective as herbal supplements, alternative medicine, or anything else. The only ineffective method of dealing with mental illness, is doing nothing.
So, it appears, that ALL mental intervention is really at least half a placebo effect. The important thing is that you feel like you’re doing something proactive for yourself. It doesn’t matter what it is, as long as you’re doing it.
So, if you get side effects with medication, sure, try Chinese medicine. It works just as well as anything else.
All that matters is that you feel like you’re doing something good for yourself.
accupuncture wont work although ive heard positive remarks about some chinese medicines not quite sure which ones though
I say it’s worth a try….I always like lamictal…and lithium is just a natural mineral that your body is lacking (it just takes more tweaking)…you just have to make sure to keep up with your blood monitoring when you are on these medications. Making sure you have the right amount in your system is half the battle to cutting out your "manic" periods more…and keeping up with actually talking to someone (and not just about your meds) helps A TON…
I’m nursing right now so I’m not on anything….keep us posted if you try anything new and let us know if it ends up working…
i can sympathise with you.i am on lots of medication for bi-polar,its a nightmare.if you feel better of meds can your doctor give you some medication such as Lorazepam just to take when you get moody and have outbursts, this would relax you.Personally i dont think bi-polar can be treated with acupuncture and chinese medicine, however if you do decide to take this option, speak with your doctor first and let us know how you get on as this is an interesting question.
