Can anyone please tell me some good natural help for Rheumatoid Arthritis?

I have a friend that is suffering from Rheumatoid Arthritis…and is supposed to see a specialist in a few weeks…right now he needs something to help. All the prescription mdsis just a temporary fix.
I need something that might give him relief now. Can you help please???

NO potatoes

Addition: I have had some luck with cherries, and ginger chopped and made into tea (or ginger caps) but my favorite all time pain reliever for this has been ___BOSWELLIA___ (also known as frankincense - in caps of course) . This I used all winter 2008-2009 to keep pain at bay. Now I am using enzymes (Woebyzyme- [sp?]) to eat up the c-reactive protein that causes pain. Of course, summer is easier on sufferers.
Note: Since I also had trouble sleeping, I used scullcap for a few nights to regain my sleep rhythm. (Although I do not like to mix, scullcap is also useful for pain.
I was also adding cardamom to my coffee.cardamom is respected in France for pain.
It’s up to you to find what suits you best.
Eternity is right …….. potatoes are very high in natural sugar and can disagree with some people and contribute to inflammatory conditions such as your friend is suffering ……. tomatoes and eggplants and tobacco may also be contributing to his pain…. get him to ditch eating all processed sugar too and notice how different he feels……. i just need one mouthfull of anything containing processed sugar … ie ~ soft drinks or candy and i get massively painfull fingers and toes …….. only to "spontaneously" heal in 24 hours …….. if i don’t have any more.
pretty much though, he would have to stop eating from a packet …. there’s processed sugar in our bread, milk, soups, everything in a packet has it in it unless it’s organic or specifically states no sugar ……. eat more alkalising foods like green vegies …… eat them, juice them but get them into you…. fresh celery juice is fabulous for arthritic pains ……. spice it up with fresh lemon juice.

Many people have found a gluten free diet to be beneficial in treating the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis.
rheumatoid arthritis. Here are basic recommendations:
* Follow a low-protein, high-carbohydrate diet; minimize consumption of foods of animal origin.
* Eliminate milk and milk products including commercial foods made with milk.
* Avoid all polyunsaturated vegetable oils, margarine, vegetable shortening, and products made with partially hydrogenated oils of any kind.
* Increase intake of omega-3 fatty acids by eating more cold water fish, walnuts or freshly ground flaxseeds. You may also want to consider taking a fish oil supplement to help keep your protein intake low.
* Get regular aerobic exercise (swimming is best for those with rheumatoid arthritis).
* Practice relaxation techniques. In addition, visualization can help moderate autoimmune responses, and psychotherapy can help you change emotional states that keep the immune system off balance.
* Try hypnotherapy or guided imagery. Look for a therapist willing to take on an autoimmune disease. Meditation and yoga can help, too.
* Avoid health care practitioners who make you feel pessimistic about your condition.
* Eliminate or reduce intake of coffee and tobacco as both have been liked to an increased risk for rheumatoid arthritis.
Here are specific recommendations for rheumatoid arthritis management:
* One at a time, eliminate the following categories of food for two months: (1) all sugar except natural fruits; (2) all citrus fruits; (3) wheat, corn and soy. At the end of each trial period, restore the eliminated items to your diet. You may find that one or more has an influence on your arthritis symptoms.
* For symptomatic treatment use aspirin and other over-the-counter anti-inflammatory drugs.
* Take feverfew (Tanacetum parthenium) for its anti-inflammatory effect; one to two capsules twice a day.
* Use anti-inflammatory herbs. Ginger and turmeric are particularly effective. I recommend Zyflamend, made by New Chapter Inc., which includes both. You can continue to take these herbs indefinitely.
* Experiment with traditional Chinese medicine, Ayurvedic medicine, homeopathy, Native American medicine, and healers.
* Try long-term fasting in a facility staffed by experienced health professionals.
* Investigate apitherapy (bee-sting treatment); a local bee keeper should be able to advise you.
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic or longer lasting problem of bone and joints. RA causes the inflammation in the lining of the joints and affecting many different joints, which causes pain, stiffness, warmth, redness and swelling. Rheumatoid arthritis can be managed through a combination of medication, exercise, rest, weight-management, nutrition, and in some severe cases, surgery.
By avoiding excessive stress, using assistive devices to help you around the house and staying at your ideal weight will help relieve pressure on your hips and knees and protecting your joints.
Here are some natural herbs and supplements that help during arthritis.
•Glucosamine/chondroitin, 500 - 1,500 mg daily, for joint health.
•N-acetyl cysteine, 200 mg daily, for antioxidant effects.
•Vitamin C, 500 - 1,000 mg one to three times daily, as an antioxidant, and for immune support.
•SAMe (s-adenosyl-L-methionine), 100 - 200 mg before breakfast daily, for joint health.
•Bromelain (Ananus comosus) standardized, 40 mg three times daily, for pain and inflammation.
•Turmeric (Curcuma longa) standardized extract, 300 mg three times a day, for pain and inflammation.

l’m no expert but this sounds a good solution - l too have a friend with this terrible disease - she swears by cod-liver oil

1) Omega-3 Fatty Acids
Omega-3 fatty acids are a type of fat. Our bodies can’t make omega-3s on their own, so we must obtain them through our diet.
There is reasonably strong evidence that omega-3 fatty acids may help people with rheumatoid arthritis. The results of over 13 double-blind, placebo-controlled studies involving a total of more than 500 people suggest that omega-3 fatty acids may improve symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis. One of the ways it appears to work is by decreasing the production of inflammatory chemicals.
Although omega-3 fatty acids reduce symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, they don’t appear to slow the progression of the disease.
Cold water fish such as salmon, sardines, and anchovies are the richest food source of omega-3 fatty acids. But instead of eating more fish which contain mercury, PCBs, and other chemicals, fish oil capsules are considered a cleaner source of omega-3 fatty acids. Many companies filter their fish oil so that these chemicals are removed.
Fish oil capsules are sold in health food stores, drug stores, and online. Most brands should be stored in the fridge to prevent the oil from going rancid.
Although flaxseed oil is often used as an alternative to fish oil, it doesn’t appear to have the same anti-inflammatory effects as fish oil at achievable intakes.
Fish oil capsules may interact with blood-thinning drugs such as warfarin and aspirin. Side effects may include indigestion and bleeding. Fish oil should not be taken two weeks before or after surgery. Fish oil can also cause a fishy aftertaste. To prevent this, fish oil is usually taken just before meals.
2) Gamma-linolenic Acid
Although there is more evidence that omega-3 fatty acids may improve symptoms of rhematoid arthrits, some studies suggest that gamma-linoleic acid, another type of essential fatty acid, may also help. It is found in borage oil, black currant seed oil, and evening primrose oils.
A review of studies by researchers with the respected Cochrane Research Collaboration concluded that there was some potential benefit for the use of gamma-linolenic acid in rheumatoid arthritis, although further studies were needed.
3) Boswellia
Boswellia is a herb that comes from a tree native to India. The active ingredients are the boswellic acids, which have been found to block chemical reactions involved in inflammation.
It is used by people with rheumatoid arthritis and other inflammatory conditions. Although there have been a couple of preliminary studies that suggest boswellia may reduce symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, we need more research to know whether it’s effective. There is also no evidence that it can slow disease progression like some conventional drugs for rheumatoid arthritis.
Boswellia doesn’t appear to cause gut irritation that can occur with many conventional pain relievers.
Boswellia is available in pill form. It should say on the label that it is standardized to contain 60 percent boswellic acids. It should not be taken for more than eight to 12 weeks unless under the supervision of a qualified health practitioner.

He can put Turmeric (found in your kitchen) on all his food, this will help relieve some pain.
Practice good body posture, and lift heavy items with your hip muscles, not your back. Never carry something if you can pull it behind you.

FYI: I was diagnosed with SEVERE rheumatoid arthritis 20 years ago. Could barely walk or tie my own shoes beacause my hands and feet were so swollen and inflammed. I should be crippled by now - but over the years I discovered many natural solutions for abating and slowing down the progression. After turning my condition around I left the computer field and a career in massage therapy with nutritional guidance. Both massage and nutrition are part of my health optimizing and pain minimizing routine.
