Can a pinched nerve in the back cause constipation?
I have had a spot in my back that has been staying numb for about a year or so. The neuro seems to think it is a sciatic nerve problem. Anyway I normally have no problem when it comes to using the restroom, but for about six months it has been terrible, and I would like to know if this could be the cause of constipation.

YES, Your neurosurgeon will tell you that this and lack of bowel control or urinary incontinence can be a symptom of low back problems. I would suggest that you have an MRI done of your lumbar spine to determine if there is nerve impingement. Also if you are on pain medication for any reason they also slow down the digestion process through the intestines and may cause constipation. I am a radiology technologist and am familiar with this topic.
