Anyone have any home remedies for getting rid of head lice?
My children were exposed to head lice around 4th of July and i have been checking them aleast 2 times a day since I found out. Well any when checking my daughter last night I found lice eggs. So I ran to wal-Mart and bought bedding spray, and a product called licefreee! a homepathic Pediculicid it is pharmacist recommend kills lice and the eggs and most important is free from potentially harmful pesticides and is safe for repeated applications.(Non-toxic). I am washing everything in hot water and drying it at a hot temp. also I sprayed everything with the bedding spray. I’m sure that I’ve done a very good job and I also made sure my children didn’t have anymore eggs/nits or bugs i comb it w/a nit comb throughly. I’m just needing serious suggestion on any home remedies that you might of heard that worked or tried yourself in case they ever return. also if you have any suggestions on how/or what to use to keep from getting them. Thanks alot ahead of time. This is very frustrating

You appear to be doing what you need to do, and have some good advice here as well. I’ve noticed no one has answered this part:

The only way to keep from getting them is to stay away from people who are infested — and I mean more than 20 feet. Don’t invite infested people into your home. Don’t go into a school classroom where there are infested students.
Good luck with that. Live, learn, use the nit comb periodically.
Shave them bald!
A200 the shampoo
Shave their heads, burn their bedding linens, and scrub their heads like crazy!
Break out that blowtorch….
You’ll also need plenty of morphine afterwards….
but goodbye lice!
use Nix lice treatment. It removed my kids lice in 2 days! It maybe diffrent for you. Its worth a try. Click the link down below for more information
I heard Kerosene, just try not to get any on your skin
use miracle whip.put it in their hair for 6 hrs then wash it out.
GO THE CHEMIST I’M SURE THEY WOULD HELP YOU.
you need a fine tooth comb and mayonnaise rub the hair good in the mayonnaise and it will loosen up the nits so you can comb them out this worked real well for my sister in laws children
Well my friend told me she uses conditioner and leaves it in her daughter hair every since she hasn’t got any more. But keep doing what your doing till there all gone. Then do this cause they can’t stick to conditioner
i had the same problem with my daughter. to comb out the lice eggs out you can mix alcohol and baby oil(equal amounts) and put in her hair. let it sit for about 10 minutes and get the lice comb and comb through that should get it all out. to prevent it from returning i used original Listerine and covered her hair in it let it sit in her hair for 5 mins and rinse out and i do that once a week. hope you get it out.
Plain brown Listerine will keep them away after you get rid of them. put some in a spray bottle and spray your hair every morning.
You need to get a product like RID and shampoo everyone in your family. You need to wash all of the bedding, pillows and stuffies with very hot water and dry on hot heat in your dryer. Anything that you cannot wash put in the freezer for 24 hours and anthing you cannot freeze place in large ziplock bags and keep sealed for two weeks (lack of air and blood for food will kill lice over long periods of time.) keep treating everyones hair and check daily. Vacuum mattresses and cushons and throw away the vacuum bag. freeze all hair elastics, brushes and combs. About prevention, you have to drill into your kids heads that they cannot share hats, combs sweaters, hats with other kids. Clean hair is especially prone to nits. I’ve heard that lice don’t like hairspray I don’t know if it is true but my mother in law works in a school and her hair is like a helmut and she has never caught lice in 20 years. (Her hair looks dumb LOL, But no lice) Keeping your girls hair tied up in ponytails or buns may help. thell them not to play with their friends hair (girls just love to play hairdresser.) Good luck
There is this thing called "Robi-comb" which is a battery operated lice comb. The teeth of the comb are metal and the battery sends a very light electrical charge through them (it emits a high pitched sound to let you know it is working). You can comb through the hair and if it "catches" a louse it will stop making the sound. It doesn’t hurt your child (unless you clip their ear with it and then they get a little shock) but it will zap the critters.
After the nightmare I went through to get rid of them when my 3 girls got them, I bought one of these and I check them every week or two. It really helps. The best $30 I ever spent.
Talk to a doctor now!!
When my girls had lice I ended up calling the pros after battling this for over 2 months. Best money I have ever spent!
Not only do they offer pesticide and chemical free treatment but also gave me some great advice.
Do NOT use mayonnaise on young children. High risk of salmonella poisoning as it must remain on the head for a minimum of 4 hours, preferably overnight.
The best natural method is to saturate the hair in olive oil. Wrap head in towel or shower cap and leave on for a minimum of 4 hours, preferably overnight. (these little critters can shut down their breathing systems for over 2 hours & still survive). Then wash hair with a dish soap, then may require another wash or two with regular shampoo.
When dealing with head lice, most people think that all they have to do is deal with the live bugs. You MUST remove ALL the nits. Just by missing a few can keep this infestation on going for weeks if not months (this was my problem). Invest in a good metal lice comb. The Louse Trap comb is one of the best! And comb after treatment and every other day. Repeat the olive oil treatment every 4 day for 2 weeks and you should be fine.
